Get Partially Reimbursed for Spring Break Childcare Costs

Updated: Feb 18

Children leaving school

Hey All,

If you haven't already used your 5-day subsidy for caregiving services from Rutgers' NEW Caregiver Support Pilot Program, Spring Break is the perfect time to do so!

Scenario: Your kids' spring break doesn't align with Rutgers' break and you need to work when they are out of school. You shop around for a sitter or camp they can do during the work week -- or you activate your institutional Care.com membership and get matched with a local caregiver for the days you need coverage. Either way, you can get reimbursed (for non-Care.com providers) or receive a non-trivial subsidy towards your incurred costs (for Care.com networked providers). Don't leave money on the table, folks! This benefit is worth up to $125 per day of caregiving services (childcare or adultcare only). Quick math: $125x5 = $625; a.k.a., some airfare for a real vacation; a.k.a., the combined costs your Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ subscriptions this year (maybe); a.k.a., now you can afford to replace your broken dryer.

But HOW does it work?

  • Overview of the Caregiver Support Pilot Program

    • Don't forget that you will need to establish your login credentials and book care/apply for reimbursement through https://rutgers.care.com/

  • Caregiver Support Pilot Program FAQs

  • TLDR, using Care.com provider: If you use the RU Care.com find-a-caregiver process, then the discounted rate/subsidy will be automatically applied to your resulting child care bill. What's left after the discount/subsidy is applied is considered your "co-pay" and you should arrange payment like with any other service transaction.

  • TLDR, using your own provider (a sitter or childcare center): Log into your Care.com account and go to “Reimburse Me for Backup Care.” From this page you can add a claim and upload your receipt. Care that qualifies is work-related Backup Care and cannot include your family’s regular care expenses. Once your receipt is approved, Care will send you a reimbursement via direct deposit or by mailed check. Your claim needs to be submitted within 30 days of care. You can use the attached template as a receipt/claims form.

You're welcome for saving you money :)

Onward!

Catherine

P.S. Please note that subsidies and reimbursements are NOT available for pet care or camp expenses via Rutgers Caregiver Support Program.
